Allama Iqbal poetry explanation for your spiritual journey

 Allama Iqbal poetry

Explanation

Wo harfy raz ke mujh ko sikha gaya ha junoon

Khuda mujhe nafsy jibrael de to kahun

Short explanation: The secrets of love that I have perceived, cannot be put into words unless God favors me with the soul he gave to Gabriel.

Long explanation: Passion is an emotion, not any emotion but one which is the purest of all. It had made possible the disclosure of the secret on Iqbal. The unseen reality manifested itself upon Iqbal because of the passion he carried in himself. But what is greater than passion is the secret that he has learned. The magnificence of the secret is too great to be divulged unless a soul like that of angel Gabriel is given to Iqbal whose soul by the permission of The Almighty announced the will of Allah to men in form of the Holy Qur'an.

Sitara kya meri taqdeer ki khabar de ga

Wo khud firakh e iflak ma ha khawar o zaboon

Short explanation: Stars cannot tell the future, as they are roaming unknowingly in the wide space.

Long explanation: Stars are creation, and creation itself is dependent on the Creator so how can it do what it is not capable to do? They wander in the limitless universe where the certainty of their future is unknown. They are not the Most Dominating, there is a higher Dominating One who controls the stars too, and everything that exists and is in his hands is the future of everything.

Hayat kya ha khayal o nazar ki majzoobi

Khudi ki mout ha Andesha e Gunagoon

Short explanation: life is a state where you stay distracted due to the visions and thoughts of your human mind. These endless worries of the world destroy your inner self and keep you away from the truth.

Long explanation: This life is not the actual reality, but a mere perception based on what the eyes see and how our minds perceive it according to its limitations. This world is a place full of distractions that detach us from our souls, and we live mindlessly. You are unable to connect to yourself when absorbed in the outer world and so unable to see the inner reality. If you don’t always believe what you just see and struggle to find the truth by questioning yourself, it will surely come to you.

Ajab maza ha, mujhe lazat e khudi de kar

Wo chahte hain ke ma apne ap ma na rahun

Short explanation: It is such pleasure which I feel. God Almighty wants me to leave myself [ego] by bestowing me the bliss I feel when I submit myself to Him.

Long explanation: Iqbal finds it astonishing that The Almighty has put such pleasure when a person reaches the state of khudi [truth] that he is willing to give up everything including himself, his desires, and his ego for the sake of intimacy with the Almighty. Allah has put such pleasure in intimacy with the One so that man feels that lazat [pleasure] and becomes forgetful of his existence and becomes one with the truth. Lazat e khudi is the highest form of pleasure which cannot be attained by any means of this world but only by giving yourself up to the One who created you.

Zameer pak o nighah e buland o masti e shauq

Na mal o dolat e karon, na fiqr e iflatun

Short explanation: Iqbal’s conscience is clear, his vision is wide, and he is experiencing the joy of passion this keeps him away from the endless, meaningless worries of the world and money and the deception of this world.

Long explanation: Iqbal has escaped the falsehood of this world which would cage a person with the worries of money, chasing after meaningless goals and blinded by the colors of the world that only brings emptiness and anxiety because it is not the goal that the heart wants to achieve. The heart recognizes its destination and unless it is put on the right road it will not come to peace. It only attains tranquility when the conscious is clear, you are asking the right questions to yourself, you do not limit your vision to what only the eyes see and let your heart love because that’s what it wants to do. Let your soul free, let it go where it finds bliss, and don’t block its way with what you think but let it fly with what you feel.
